Once
you've made the decision to have plastic surgery, the most important
choice you will face is deciding which doctor will perform the procedure.
Often, finding this doctor, and then determining whether he is the
right one to do the work, is a tremendous challenge. I can't over-emphasize
how important this choice is. If you make the wrong decision, the
regret may stay with you for the rest of your life!
Unfortunately, I know this all too well. I once made the wrong choice,
and the consequences were severe. Many others have endured the same
terrible disappointment and anguish I endured.
But it doesn't have to go this way for you!
How
does this book help in the Most Important Step?
Currently,
there are several ways to find a plastic surgeon. I will address each
of these options, and explain why they may lead you into trouble.
Yellow
Pages This is like picking a name out of a hat. You
have no idea about the doctor you choose. (This was the big mistake
I made.)
Plastic
Surgery Websites If a website has doctors listed,
it is because it is a referral service - meaning the doctor paid to
be listed. The person who runs the website does not do any research
on the doctor. They will list anyone who rights a check. You, yourself,
might just as well look through the Yellow Pages.
Now,
although these web sites are not a good place to find a surgeon, they
are a GREAT place to research
a surgeon you already know about and are targeting in on. These sites
will usually have a link to doctors' websites, which can really give
you a great amount of information on that doctor.
Word
of Mouth This is a GREAT
way to find a plastic surgeon. The only problem is that there is a
95% chance you do not know anyone close to you who has had the surgery
you are planning to have. So, unless you are very lucky, this is usually
not an option.
Word
of Mouth from Stranger This is a VERY
risky gamble. There are many plastic surgery communities consisting
of message boards and chats. There are many people out there who are
very eager to tell you how great their doctor is. The big problem
with this is that there are also many doctors on those boards pretending
to be patients giving you this information. Again, I would say that
going to these types of communities can be a very valuable tool, but
not in searching for a doctor, only in researching the doctor you
have already focused in on.
Doctors
Referral You can ask your family doctor which plastic
surgeons they would recommend. This is a good way, but I see two potential
problems.
1.
Most people are embarrassed to tell their family doctor they want
to have plastic surgery, worrying that the doctor will either talk
them out of it or pass judgment.
2. Your family doctor may know of a few well-known plastic surgeons
in your city, but may not know of a doctor who specializes in your
procedure.
Although
there are a few drawbacks to this option, I would still say that if
you can get some names from your doctor it is a good start.
Advertising
- You will see many doctors advertising in your local newspapers
and magazines. Although this does let you know about procedures a
doctor is promoting, it is basically like choosing a doctor from the
yellow pages or plastic surgery website.
So, as you can see, the options that are currently available out
there are very risky. I can¹t stress enough how important this
is!
Why
our book is a valuable option!
There are several benefits in using our book in your search:
Our book gives you a good place to start, because the information
comes from other plastic surgeons, and this is information that could
not be bought by a doctor! The doctors that have been recognized by
other doctors because they have a proven track record in their field,
and because other doctors have noticed them as " above the rest".
It's safe to say that someone MUST be a great plastic surgeon to get
that sort of recognition!
Our book gives you VERY IMPORTANT
information that has NEVER
been available!
It
can give you the information as to which doctor is the best at a PARTICULAR
PROCEEDURE. In the past, there have been
magazine articles written that have listed which plastic surgeons
are the best in a certain state or city, for example, "Dr. Kramer
was chosen as best plastic surgeon in California". That information
is simply not good information. What I found out in doing the survey
was that NO doctor was great at ALL Procedures. Even the best doctors
have a specialty. Just because a doctor is known for being great at
Liposuction doesn¹t mean he is good at Face Lifts! So if you
choose a doctor to do your face lift because you heard he was good
at breast implants, you are taking a risk in your results. You
wouldn't choose an Orthopedic Surgeon to do Brain Surgery, would you?
Our
book is unbiased. No doctor could pay his or her way into it. The
results stand on doctors¹ merits and expertise, so much so that
they were recognized by their fellow plastic surgeons.
Although
no choice you make in deciding on a plastic surgeon is guaranteed,
it is so important to do your research. The result of your surgery
begins and ends with the surgeon you choose. Our book is not to be
used as your final decision it is meant to be the starting place
of your research. Start by finding the surgeon in your city that was
voted best at the procedure you are planning to have done. Consult
with a few of them, and then research them to make your final decision.
If you do this, you are on your way to the closest thing to a risk
free surgery, with results you will be happy with!
Do
your homework, see several surgeons and chose wisely, because your
worth it!!
